The Steps To Building Your Own Computer
If you have ever wanted to build your own home computer, here are the basic planning steps you will need to follow. Building your own computer may cost more than buy a pre-built machine, but you are stuck with the stock parts that they give you. When you make your own computer, you will choose every piece that goes into it.
- Your first decision will be to choose a CPU chip. The processor you choose will virtually determine the rest of the computer components that you buy.
- The CPU chip will determine the motherboard choices that you have to choose from. Secondarily you will need to decide on what external ports you need for your system. That may include USB ports, HDMI, VGA, Audio Inputs, Parallel Ports. On the inside of the board you will either have SATA or PATA connections for your drives. You will probably have a combination of the two. If you plan on using a floppy disk drive, make sure you get a board that has the connection for it.
- The types of RAM you can use on your computer will be based on what is supported by your Motherboard. There is RAM that is built for speed, which may not always be stable. Then there is slower RAM that is designed to just be good stable RAM. Your motherboard will also determine how much RAM you can install on your machine, though the amount recognized by your operating system may be different.
- The case you choose for your computer must be bigger than or equal to the size of your motherboard. A bigger case is nice because it gives you room to work with during assembly. But if space is an issue, then you might want a smaller case.
