Tilera is coming out with a 100 core processor. It is apart of their new Tile-GX series and will be due out towards the end of next year. One of its focuses is to be a replacement for system boards that must use multiple processor chips to carry out all of the machines functions. It will be a new age for parallel processing.
Although the 100 core Tile-GX is the big announcement, the Tile-GX family of chips also features 16, 36, and 64 core processors. All chips employ Tilera’s two-dimensional iMesh interconnect system, which removes the need for an on-chip bus. It also features a Dynamic Distributed Cache(DDC) which allows the sharing of a core’s cache across the whole chip. The combination of these feature make the performance of the chip linearly scalable in relation to the number of cores the chip has.
The Tile-GX series is aimed at a wide variety of computing areas. It will be optimized for enterprise networking, wireless infrastructure, cloud computing, and multimedia applications.
